Heart Heart

Wednesday night was Wiki's very successful Valentine's Horror party. As the title suggests, we watched delightfully cheesy horror movies and consumed lots of tasty holiday treats. I didn't take very many pictures, as I was busy mingling, but here are a few crummy shots:

The hostess with the mostess was looking super fly. Everyone was encouraged to dress up, but in the end the only people wearing fancy duds were Wiki and I, and He-Man in his symphony tuxedo. Boo. Here's the rad spread. Take note -attendence at your event is directly proportionate to the amount of food you supply. The amazing gold and crystal candy dish was found in her grandma's treasure trove of a basement. And those are jello jigglers in the lower left corner - Wiki is a jello maven.
Finally, here is the infamous Ginger Snaps angel food cake (made from a mix). The back of the box read,
"Beat for five minutes until stiff peaks form." Hmmm....

Cake Balls and Moth Balls

Friday night JoJo came to town and along with our buddy, the Count, we went to the First Friday art shows, spilt blueberries all over the grocery store, ran screaming through an empty parking garage, and then returned to my place to make cake balls and watch "Ponyo on the Cliff By the Sea". Good times.

Then Saturday morning we set off on a small adventure to Walnut, Iowa - the antique capital of the state, supposedly. We were not disappointed, as the town (population 837) contained ELEVEN hefty antique stores. It was a beautiful thing.

"OMFG like no you just di'in't!"

We found an Ewok cookie jar! Not pictured is the Wookie cookie jar - I want some Wookie Cookies!

Meat loaf special + chicken pita at Aunt B's Kitchen.

This giant California raisin would look great in my living room.

Daddy Warbucks on a porcelain plate? Yes, please!

JoJo made friends with a bug-eyed weasel-thing.

Hurry Up, May!

I've never looked more forward to a summer than this twenty third one of my life. I think it has something to do with the fact that I've been sitting in a gray cubicle, in the DARK!, every Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday 8-5 for the past few months. I think it also has to do with the fact that summer is filled with my favorite activities, and this year will be especially good because it's the first time in four years that I'll be able to stay in Lincoln with my bestest buddies.

On the agenda are barbeques, picnics, bike rides with the Fu Man Chicks, kite flying, krafting, sweaty dance parties, and SAIL BOAT BUILDING!

I've been forever obsessed with the idea of having my own little boat and floating along on warm, breezy days. How nice does that sound, really? Daawuud got this brilliant idea to start the Nebraska Puddle Duck Armada. Puddle Ducks are tiny, cute(ooh, don't tell him I called them cute) 1-2 person sailboats that you can build yourself for about $150. Several of my friends are each going to construct one, and then we will have a nice fleet for racing and staging pirate battles. I've already decided to paint my craft neon pink and christen it "Stikla", after the Norwegian princess who escaped marriage by becoming a viking pirate lass. I will be spending many a sweet afternoon out on the lake drinking iced tea and playing the melodica as loud as physically possible. Ahhh.

First Draft

Behold, an awkward downward-angle shot of my first attempt at an extravagant floral hair accessory:

I don't think it's big enough yet. I want to look like springtime exploded on my head.

Allow Me to Gloat A Bit

Headdresses are going to be big. Did I not tell you that already? And now look what Karl just slapped onto the Spring 09 couture runway:

Did I call that, or DID I CALL THAT? Style.com says that Japanese hairstylist Kamo and his team are the ones responsible for these paper flower creations. Swoon.

In keeping with my headdress obsession, I am now planning on teaching another class for free school. This one will focus on basic crafting skills such as simple sewing techniques and the construction of pom poms, yo-yos, and felt flowers and fruit, which we will use to make lovely hair pieces, fascinators, head bands, barrettes, etc. etc. etc. Soooooo, if you happen to be reading this, and you happen to be around Lincoln, NE, and you happen to be interested in this free(!) class, please let me know and I will send you more information. Woot!
